Corn is a highly popular cereal cultivated the world over. It is widely used for animal feed owing to its nutritional qualities. It has been cultivated since the pre Colombian period and is one of the most nourishing foods in the world.

Nowadays, corn is produced in nearly 150 countries across the five continents. It has a high yield potential and is generally cultivated mechanically. The biggest producers in the world are North America with 360 000 Mt, followed by China with 215 000 Mt. Brazil is the third largest producer with 80 000 Mt in the states of Paraná, Mato-Grosso, Minas Gerais and São Paulo.
